There is something about putting on pieces that simply belong together. Same colour, same fabric. You just take them and go. No standing in front of the wardrobe, no overthinking. And somehow, you feel more comfortable, in your body and in your mind. That can change a whole day.
But for years, I kept running into the same problem. I would find a beautiful set, and one piece was not right. Maybe the top was not my shape. Maybe the trousers did not feel good. So I would look for something else in the same fabric and colour, and most of the time, there was nothing.
So, I put the set back and left with nothing.
At some point, I was tired of it. That is why I started MAMEY.
Different pieces. The same colours. The same materials. Made to be mixed, matched and worn without thinking too much.
MAMEY is inspired by the calm simplicity of Switzerland and the warmth of my Latin roots. The design is minimal and quiet, with a slightly oversized fit that feels easy to move in, but still feminine, still shaped to the body. A little bit of Switzerland, a little bit of the Caribbean, in every piece.
From the start, it mattered to me that I could stand behind every decision. From the label to the fabric to the packaging. I wanted to create with awareness, for the women who wear MAMEY and for the world we live in. It took time, but I am proud of what came out of it.
Everything is sourced in Europe, mainly in Portugal.
Each garment is made in small batches by Paula and her team in Portugal. A family-run workshop with many years of experience, where every piece is made with care, attention and respect for the process.
The jewellery carries a piece of the Dominican Republic, my roots. Larimar is found only there, and no two stones are ever the same. The stones are shaped in Barahona, near the mine, by Maria and her son. Each piece is then finished with love in a small atelier in Bern, by Simone of Atelier 0816, in gold-plated sterling silver on a waxed cotton cord.
MAMEY is not fast fashion. It follows no trends and no seasons.
